Week 12

What did you do in lab and what was the big question?

- we looked at global climate change pictures from NASA.com

-  100% of scientists believe that climate change is human caused.

- what is the difference between weather and climate? Climate is a 30 year average of weather

Ex: Weather decides what clothes you wear, climate decides what clothes you buy. If weather is my mood, climate is my personality.

                            City #1                            City #2                        City #3

Avg. of first 5:  8 days                                  7 days                        10 days

Avg. of last 5:    9 days                                 9 days                        10 days

First of 5 days average: 8 and 1/3 days

Last of 5 days average: 9 and 1/3 days

12% and 1 day increase

- we see that the average days of rainfall above the threshold went up a whole day and 12%.

What did you learn from lecture?

Quiz :/

What did you learn from the Press book reading?

What factors determine whether or not an area has a hot or cold climate?

L: Latitude

O: Ocean Currents

W: Wind and Air Masses

E: Elevation

R: Relief

Near Water:

  • In the summer, water acts like an air conditioner to keep the air temperatures cool. In the winter, water acts like a heater to keep the temperatures from getting too cool.
  • Continental climate=far from water
  • maritime climate=near water.

What do you need more information on?
