Week 10

What did you learn this week?

This week we learned about evolution and natural selection and how species can change over time due to genetic variation, adaptation, competition, chance events, or other environmental factors.

Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?

I am able to relate what we learned to what I already know because I already had some background knowledge on what natural selection is. We went more into depth about natural selection and learned some more of the causes of it and what it can look like. We also got put into groups and had to pick an animal/species and show how they have changed over time.

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

Something that we did in class was create our own stories with our groups. We got to pick an animal, my group picked penguins. Then, we had to do some research to find out some facts about them and how they have evolved as species. Next, we created a powerpoint and made a non fiction story about penguins. I feel like I learned a lot about penguins and how species can change over time by doing that activities and listening to other groups' stories about the animals they picked. I think this would be a really fun activity for my future students to do. I also liked how we got to pick our own animal I think that makes it even more fun. 1. Hi Taryn, I thought it was interesting learning more about natural selection I have not covered it since high school. This unit was one of my favorites so far. I also agree with you about the activity we completed. I thought it would a great tool to use with our future students. Great post!

  2. Hi Taryn! I also enjoyed making a story about evolution. Getting to choose our animals definitely got me more invested in the activity. This is something I can see myself using in my classroom, I think students would really enjoy it.
