Week 2
1. This week we learned about the characteristics of living things. I had already known of these characteristics, but it was really nice to get a refresher and I thought the activity that we did (shown below) was really fun.
4. This activity is something that I can apply to my future teaching and my future classroom. It was a really easy way to get creative with the different characteristics and a good way to incorporate art into a science lesson also. This would get the students excited about science and it's a good hands on activity to showcase what they have and are learning.
3. I am finding photosynthesis to be really clear and I understand all of that. Something that I am still confused about and don't understand is mesophyll and chlorophyll. Sometimes it is just hard for me to understand things that I can't see, that is why I struggle with chemistry so much.
Another thing we got started on this week was growing bean sprouts! All we did this week was add 15-20 beans to a cup with a wet cotton ball and more water, then placed it under a light. Hopefully we see sprouts within the next few weeks.
The last thing we did in class this week was we dissected beans!
This is the seed coat:
I also thought the poster over the characteristics was super fun! I think kids would love getting to be creative in science class. It's also an informal way of assessing students knowledge of really any topic.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that the poster of the characteristics would be great to apply in the classroom!
ReplyDeleteI really like your poster of the characteristics of living things! Making a poster for an assignment is a fun, creative, and non-traditional method to teach your students!
